Jedha

Overview

Jedha is a cold desert moon orbiting the gas giant NaJedha, and one of the oldest pilgrimage destinations in the galaxy. What draws people is kyber. The crystal occurs throughout the sandstone crust, and the faiths that gathered around it built the walled holy city of NiJedha on a single mesa above the surrounding desert. Population is roughly 11.3 million, predominantly human, and most of it lives in or around that city. The Empire now controls the moon and is extracting the kyber, which has made an occupied world out of a pilgrimage site.

Climate

  • Permanent winter across the whole moon. Cold, dry, and arid.
  • Breathable atmosphere. Diameter 11,263 kilometers.
  • Settlement is concentrated on elevated mesas.
  • Sandstorms account for most recorded deaths outside the cities.

NiJedha

The principal city, walled and built across a single mesa. Standing sacred sites include the Temple of the Kyber and the Dome of Deliverance. Registered pilgrim traffic comes from the Church of the Force, the Disciples of the Whills, and the Guardians of the Whills.

Politics

  • The Empire holds the moon, and kyber extraction operates under Imperial control.
  • One Imperial I-class Star Destroyer holds station over NiJedha.
  • Armed resistance to the mining operation is active. Mining convoys are attacked.
